Parsons Dowd Psychological Limited is able to offer expert assessments by a team of Forensic Psychologists/Psychologists in a range of areas. All Psychologists working for the company are trained to PhD level and have extensive experience of both civil and criminal proceedings.

We are able to offer specialist assessments in the following areas:

• substance misuse
• the effects of childhood physical or sexual abuse on adult functioning
• care proceedings
• psychological aspects of child physical, emotional and sexual abuse
• false confessions and assessment of suggestibility in police interviews
• offender risk assessment, including sex offenders
• psychological assessment of fitness to work/suspicion of malingering
• criminal responsibility
• fitness to plead
• management of sex offenders in the community
• detection and management of psychiatric disorders by the police and prison services
• personality disorder in forensic settings
• matrimonial proceedings

We are also able to offer advise on issues with regard to training and procedures carried out under PACE conditions. The Forensic Psychologists in our team have been trained to use a number of risk assessment instruments in both sexual and non-sexual offending assessments, also in assessing risk of violence.

In addition we are able to offer assessments of the effects of childhood sexual and physical abuse on adult functioning including Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. We are also able to offer assessment and treatment for the effects of abusive relationships on adults.

We offer a divorce therapy service working with individuals on in a therapeutic alliance in order both to assess both the effects of a traumatic relationship breakdown and offer individual treatment tailored to individual needs. This can be within the context of legal proceedings or on a private basis.

In addition, Parsons Dowd Psychological Limited is also able to call on a qualified Family Therapist in order to carry out assessments on whole families, also on senior academic researchers and practitioners in specialist fields such as substance misuse, to complete assessments alone and in conjunction with Dr. Parsons and Dr. Dowd.
